Covenant

I have referred to the "Marriage Covenant" a few times, but have not really defined it. Here is one dictionary definition of the noun "covenant": 1. an agreement, usually formal, between two or more persons to do or not do something specified.

Let's look at the traditional wedding vows for information of what the marriage covenant includes and excludes.

I, (NAME), take you, (NAME) to be my (Husband/Wife). And I do promise (covenant) to be your loving and faithful (wife/husband); for better, for worse; for richer, for poorer; in sickness and in health; so long as we both shall live.

The promise is to love and be faithful, no matter what.

The Questions of Intent are a little more expansive on the Marriage Covenant: Do you promise to love, respect, care for and be faithful?

The Marriage Covenant is an exclusivity agreement: I am exclusively yours and you are exclusively mine.

Those who honor this Covenant have the best in marriage.
